PS - It's a strange New England thing to leave Christmas decorations up until Easter. I've been here for a while now and I still don't understand it.

Not a bike

Yet nonetheless essential for getting around Boston these days. It's hard to tell but these Original Muck Boot Company "Ice Pick" boots have metal spikes embedded in the sole to ensure good traction on ice. I'm very concerned about slipping these days so these boots have been a lifesaver (really!).

It's a beautiful day here in Boston, much warmer than expected.

Liberty!

This lovely lady is enjoying a self-guided tour of Boston courtesy of the loaner bikes for guests of the Liberty Hotel. I followed her as she lingered outside the Gucci window, and mused that these free bicycle loans give new meaning to the hotel's name.

Pink Headscarf, Head Tube

It's as if she looked to her bike for fashion inspiration this morning!

Sparkles!

It's hard to see in this 'on the fly' photo, but this pretty lady has both sparkles in her coat and in the streamers on her bike. Add her cool boots and helmet, and I was smiling as I followed her over the Mass Ave bridge.

Heeled Boots and Cargo

This chic cyclist, spotted in Cambridge, isn't letting February get her down. It was a beautiful crisp morning for a ride.

Pretty Cyclist

OK, so her pretty hair, sleek boots, and adorable jacket don't really follow the same aesthetic as her bike. But that's ok, she's out in Cambridge in January, getting her errands done and looking good while she does them. I want to point out that when I first saw her she'd pulled over onto the sidewalk to use her phone safely. I think she was getting directions. Courteous and cute, a winning combo!

Schwinn Jenny

I was so happy to get this submission from a chic Boston cyclist. I love it all, but perhaps the coat the most (that's my favorite color). Looking good is its own reward, but I still want to say WELL DONE!

Boots and Handbag on a Red Mixte

It's a grey day here in MA, but this lady's out in style. I couldn't tell if she was wearing a skirt with those boots, but she certainly was looking stately as she moved smoothly through the intersection, not too fast, not too slow.

Fringe-Tied Suede Boots

Just too delicious! If I had those boots I think I'd wear them every day. She's sure hauling a lot of stuff on that bike, good thing she has a bike to carry it all.

Red Riding Boots Redux

I'm sorry for the blurry photos but look at those great red boots! I have come to realize I've had a thing for red boots ever since coveting my step-mom's red Italian snakeskin and suede boots many decades ago. I doubt I will ever find red boots as sumptuous as hers, but in the meantime, aren't these wonderful?

Scarf - Gloves - Boots

She's looking cute on that bike, even in this cold. I'm guessing that we're seeing a pair of tights peeking between her trousers and her boots. That's a great trick for staying warm in New England, on and off a bike.

Autumn Arrives

Today the wind is cold and the leaves have started falling. You can't see this pretty lady's front but she had a colorful neckline peeking out of her plaid top. I love her boots, and how they match her helmet.

Someone else was out taking photos on her bike! I like her graphical jacket, it's cooler today but she still looks cheerful.

There's something about the warmth of the brown and the coolness of the silver, making a sort of yin and yang, an intriguing complexity. Consider me a fan (even if the photo is, sadly, blurred).

New Boots!

OK my fashion friends, I turn to you to share my excitement for my new boots. Hurray new boots!
I've wanted boots for years now, and finally found a pair that meet all my exceedingly strict requirements. They're Balenciaga(!), and the leather used is just incredible. These cows must be another breed from the ones I normally encounter. I didn't want a boot with an elastic gusset - these boots fit perfectly from the foot (Euro 39.5 for this tallish girl, no larger, no smaller) to my sporty calf. I couldn't get a better fit bespoke. I also got them in a complicated second-hand arrangement, I would feel guilty buying boots this nice brand-new but these are guilt-free and it makes the perfect fit a miracle. I like to think that Nicolas Ghesquière would be happy to see them on a bike.



Those of you more into the bicycle accessories will notice that I have a new front rack. I'm very excited about this as now I can carry my famous French chocolate cake on my bike when you ask me over for dinner. The rack is made in the USA by Blackburn. I'm now looking for a silver rear rack to replace the black one. Not an urgent search, it's a fashion whim only, and I waited years to get the boots...

Mixte in Boston

I like her boots and her skinny jeans. I wonder why she doesn't put her pack on her rack?

Stockings and Uggs

Stockings and Uggs are a unique combination, to my knowledge unseen in Europe but increasingly common in the States (I have no data on this trend Downunder). This is a practical way to get where you're going toasty warm, then change into tiny stilettos once you've arrived.

Warm Hands

Today is 16F, winds 15mph (-10C, winds 40 km/h). It's COLD.
This lady with the cute boots seems warmer with those cheerful gloves.
